Are you looking for an easy way to change the boot sequence? We bring you a quick guide on how to change Boot Order in Windows 10.

As we know boot order determines the sequence in which your PC checks devices for an operating system during startup. It generally helps us to control the system boots in traditional BIOS mode or UEFI mode.
Steps to Modify Boot Sequence in Windows 10
Let’s change the Boot Order in Windows 10 and Modify the Boot Sequence in BIOS or UEFI.
Restart Your Computer to Enter into BIOS
First things first, restart your computer. While it’s powering up, keep an eye on the screen for a quick message during Power-On Self-Test (called POST). This message will tell you which key to press to access the BIOS or UEFI settings—usually Del, F2, or another key, depending on your PC.
Make sure to Press the Key as soon as you see the Boot Screen or you might miss your chance and need to restart again!
Find BIOS Setup Utility
Once you are in the BIOS setup, you will face UEFI, the screen may look like a black or blue screen with lots of options in a box. It may be complex to understand but don’t worry. All BIOS/UEFI menus are different but consist of similar layouts.
Then you have to look around for a menu labeled as “Boot“, “Boot Options“, or something related to boot. However, if you don’t see it then it may be within menus like Advanced Options or BIOS Features.
Use the arrow keys and on-screen instructions(look at the bottom of the UEFI screen) to move around and select options.
Change the Boot Order
Now, in the Boot settings, find the options to change the sequence. There, you will see a list of devices from which your computer can boot. Like your Hard Drive, USB ports, CD/DVD Drive, and even Network Options.
This list tells your PC which device to check first for an operating system. For example, to boot from a USB drive, you’ll want to move it to the top of the list.
Make sure by double-checking the order to make sure it’s set the way you want.
Saving and Exit
After doing so, make sure to save your changes: Apply ONLY to ‘Save and Exit’ by using the F10 key, which is usually used to save changes, and then exit the BIOS setup utility.
Read the instructions mention below in your BIOS interface for the button to SAVE and Exit.
After saving the boot setting your PC will restart, and it will try to boot from your saved. If that device is not bootable to having an error, it will move to the next one automatically. For example, if you saved your USB drive as the first option but it’s not connected, the system will try the hard drive next.
What if POST Screen Methods Doesn’t Work?
Well, in rare cases it can happen which makes you unable to Access BIOS! To resolve this you may need to use. Use Windows 10 Advanced Startup feature also works with Windows 11:
To do so, Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. Find Advanced Startup, and click Restart Now. Then, Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings and restart.
By doing you will enter your BIOS settings. This is an alternate method and a complex and only to performed if POST screen methods fail.
Secure Boot Will Block External Devices Like Pen-Drive?
Well, you do not need to disable Secure Boot just because you want to boot from a USB device. You only need to disable Secure Boot if and only the environment you are booting into does not support Secure Boot, such as most Linux-based boot environments.
However, if you are troubleshooting or your system fails to boot and getting an error you may try to boot with disabling Secure Boot.
To do so, you need to be on BIOS!
Locate the Secure Boot option > Change the setting from “Enabled” to “Disabled” > Select Save and Exit or press the F10 or corresponding key to confirm changes.
